The Don't Sleep Posse got the exclusive listen through of Erykah Badu’s follow up to New Amerykah: 4th World War. The album is slated for a February 2010 release and as promised its going to be entitled New Amerykah pt. 2: Return of the Ankh. I’m wildn’ out with the list of producers she’s worked with on this album. I loved 4th World War and I know Return of the Ankh is going to be just as good if not better. Check out the track listing after the jump.

20 Feet Tall (produced by 9th Wonder)

The album kicks off with the atonal fuzz found all over Part I, only this time it slips into an off-kilter, warbly duet with keys and vocals that float atop the instrumentation. “You built a wall 20 feet tall / But if I get off my knees / I might recall I’m 20 feet tall,” she sings. The track ends with children screaming.

Window Seat (produced by Erykah Badu and James Poyser)

“Window Seat” kicks up the pace into a thick, rich drum groove, paralleling the best of early neo-soul Erykah with its chalky bongo hits and sultry vocals. On the track, she sings, “But I need you to want me / And I need you to miss me / I need your attention / I need you next to me / I need someone to clap for me” before defiantly cooing on the chorus, “Can I get a window seat? / Don’t want nobody next to me.” The track ends with a sudden psychedelic smear of noise.

Agitation (produced by Shafiq Husayn)

With its fleshy bass line, this short tune throws some jazzy spice into the mix, with pulsating rhythm drums and a jazz piano line that plays the background to Badu chanting, “What a day.” The track abruptly cuts out.

Get Money (produced by Erykah Badu, James Poyser, Karriem Riggins and Thundercat)

Hip-hop purists will appreciate the blatant nod to Biggie and Junior M.A.F.I.A., as Erykah gives her own spin on the classic “Get Money” by flipping it into a warm, tantalizing soul groove. Over live instrumentation, Badu sings on the chorus, “Can’t turn me away / I believe in your heart / I always want to stay.” In the background, she casually sasses, “Get money!” Throughout the track, you expect her to just bust into a rhyme, but after riding out for a good couple of minutes, the track ends with a literal round of applause. Oh, and somewhere in there, Badu promises her man, “I’ll be your robot girl.

Don’t Be Long (produced by Ta’Raach)

Before this one kicks in, Badu says on the track, “Do you have the number for the other bass player?” before reading some futuristic phone number that has too many digits to be legit. Soon, “Don’t Be Long” begins, coasting on the thickest groove yet. With a sizzling bass line, the head-knocking groove gently cruises on an electric guitar rhythm, with Badu singing, “Go baby, go baby / Go be gone, I know you’ve got to get your hustle on.” The track, produced by Ta’Raach (Badu explained that he’s straight from the Sa-Ra camp), ends in an atonal mess of notes and a robotic, distorted speaking voice of a woman.

Love (produced by J. Dilla)

This short track is over in almost the blink of an eye, but it leaves an indelible mark on the listener. With a splotchy, fat drum beat, “Love” features a rusty guitar melody with Erykah accenting the beat with poignant vocals. Too short for such a kicking joint, but memorable.

Umm Hmm (produced by Madlib)

This one features a sped-up vocal sample and is crowded, playing like a vintage record straight from the crates. “You can’t hide / Calm down baby let me go / I love how you make me feel,” she sings.

Fall in Love (produced by Karriem Riggins)

“Fall in Love” might as well boast a production credit from Dilla, because it takes many cues from his style. The smooth backpacker-catering joint rests on stabbing electronic Moog noises and subtle, liquid butter keys buried deep in the mix. “Slow singin’ and flower bringin’ / If my burglar alarm starts ringin’,” she sings, paying homage to the late, great Biggie Smalls for a second time. “It’s hard for him to not be in the fabric of my shit,” she later explained about why she had two references to the Notorious B.I.G. on the album. “Maybe I can ask Puff to let me have a verse,” she joked.

Incense (produced by Madlib)

This strictly instrumental track surprisingly fits right in with the rest of the album. Beginning with a static hum, “Incense” features a fluttering harp (recorded live in the studio) that plays in dynamic arpeggios before the groove locks into place. Soon, the harp readjusts to the new groove and a vibrating bass chimes in. Real soulful.

Out My Mind Just in Time (Part 1) (Undercover Over-Lover) (produced by James Poyser)

Ms. Badu explained that this track is actually in three parts, stating that it was the “Green Eyes” of the album. “Part 1″ of this track is Erykah at her most poignant. You can almost picture her singing in a smoky jazz bar as the track plays, with just a creamy piano accompaniment to her billowing vocals holding together the tune. “I’m a recovering undercover over-lover / Recovering from a love I can’t get over / Recovering undercover over-lover / And now my common law lover thinks he wants another,” she sings. Ms. Badu even moans, “I’d chop and screw for you,” with the vocal actually sounding chopped and screwed. The subtlety undeniably plays to her favor.

Out My Mind Just in Time (Part 2) (produced by Georgia Anne Muldrow)

The last track on the album was originally a Georgia Anne Muldrow song, Ms. Badu said, kind of like how Mos Def did the same thing with Muldrow’s “Roses” for his The Ecstatic album. Playing like a more fleshed out version of “Part 1,” the track features her singing, “Could this be love? / From high no frontier / Who is this guy / You are so wise / I’m so gone / By summertime, you’d had it all / Build a wall ten feet tall / Now I laugh at it all.” The track ends with her moaning, “Out of my mind, just in time” before the album cuts off and a group of children scream, “Yay!” An optimistic ending for a beautiful collection of tracks.

Badu finished by stating that the third album in the New Amerykah series would be titled Lowdown, Low Underground and would be sung in the persona of her alias Loretta Brown, a woman that’s “from the ’50s but acts like she’s from the ’40s - the 2040’s.”

First of all, let me apologize for the lag in posting shit... A lot of changes have went down over the past month and have had a huge impact in my life. Certain situations that needed attending to, have finally made their way to the surface and have been dealt with swift action and a winning outcome, I recently made the move into the downtown area, as a matter of fact DEAD SMACK in the middle of downtown and let me just say... FUCKING A!!! ABOUT TIME!!! So as I get myself settled, here are some flics from the past weekend that just so happens to start on Thursday and boy... WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND IT WAS!!! First off it was The All Things Rad vs. 5&A Dime party at El Dorado and also our boy Crispin's birthday... Jay Dread was our guest Dj for the night and got in trouble for playing Pantera? Anywho... The night was mad fun and I managed to puke all over El D's bathroom... shhhhh!!!! Friday was mellow, but Saturday was the Pacquiao / Clottey fight, and as usual we watched it at the homey Irons pad... And what is a Pac -Man fight without a HUGE Filipino buffet!!! ( see pics ) So after the ( WEEEEAAAAKKKK!!! )
fight we mashed out to El D for some drinky poos, ( no pics ) & topped the night off with some carnitas burrito's and a short walk back to the pad... Woke up Sunday morning to summer like conditions, and decided it would be a nice day for a bike ride so we linked up with Irons and the Yooksters for a 20 mile!!! ride out to Pt. Loma... FUCKING BITCHIN!!! Felt so good to get some excercise in and work out the knee + seeing San Diego that way was inspiring!!! So as we closed the day out with the bike ride, we stopped at Seaport Village for some Ben & Jerry's then it was back to Irons for some much deserved leftovers...
Damn so thats pretty much it, oh yeah... I went and saw Alice in Wonderland that night too... FOR FREE!!! SCORE!!! So like I said I'm settled in now so I will keep the fly shit coming, and be on the lookout for some EXCITING NEW TREATS that are in the chamber!!! I'm tired of typing now so I bid you adeu... Wednesday was the first day of ASR and just 24 hours earlier I found myself scrambling to find a new spot to relocate the Hellz Bellz x In4mation x GPPR x Antenna Magazine x A# Party, due in part to the fact that the original spot wasn't able to facilitate my needs... Oh well, it is what it is... I got to chill with the Hawaii crew the night before and was able to bang out a new flyer and get it printed the morning of ASR opening... WHEW!!! Anyways, the show was what it always is and it's good to see friends you haven't seen in awhile... I wish I had more time to prepare for the night events, but let me just say this... I was very happy with the turnout for the party, the work was worth it... I THINK? Maybe I'm just getting old... HAHA!!! But everybody made it down and the drinks were flowing and the dance floor was glowing and even though I stayed sober the whole night, I had a good time + there were girls.... Word.

I've had the opportunity to work and record with some of the best hip hop artists in the business HANDS DOWN... Now some people might see how I am and assume that this is the furthest thing from how they picture me, and I'm VERY COOL with that.
Without dropping too many names, I can say that this brother right here is the BUSINESS... And his name is Kev Brown... Enjoy the interview...

First off, people think you're from Philly or NY. Let's set the record straight. Who is Kev Brown ?

Well...I'm a producer/artist from Landover Maryland.

You have a unique, vintage, and progressive sound. Who would you say played the biggest part in your sound, and who influences you past & present?

There's too many influences to name really... As far as the beats Pete Rock was my favorite coming up but there's mad other influences in my music from gospel to rock to soul music and jazz...

You've worked with some real heavyweights in this industry. Are there any particular artists that were the most memorable?

Well... De La Soul was dope to work with. I hope to do some more stuff with them. That was my 1st out of town, "official" kind of studio session up in NY...

Low Budget is your crew. When did this come to fruition, who makes up the crew, and what are the plans for the future?

Low Budget as a collective has been around since around 99/2000... I was calling my productions low budget for years but as the crew started to form it kind of stuck. The crew is a collection of very talented producers/artists mainly based from the DC/Metro area...(they call it the "dmv" now...). We plan to keep elevating and putting classic music out.

Now that the introductions have been made, what keeps you creative, and what does Kev Brown do when he's not in the studio?

...Not really sure what keeps me creative... I'm not always working on music as people think. I mainly make beats when I really feel inspired to. That inspiration could come from just about anything... I've been told I'm "fun" to hang out with but I don't really see myself as an outgoing type of person compared to alot of other folks I know.

With the current state of the music industry and most people giving their stuff away on the Internet and blogs, do you find it harder to stick to your guns and not follow the current "trends" that are stripping the soul out of music nowadays?

Giving away music is cool to a certain point. If you're going to do a mix-tape with a bunch of blatant, easy to recognize samples or you give an ep or a few joints out for free here and there. That's just part of the "game" we have to play now. At the same time people have to realize the type of quality music that we do. Also there is a lot of time and energy going into this (at least as far as my circle is concerned). So as an artist, I feel you have to have a balance of things.

Do you think the Myspace / Facebook / Twitter age has helped or hindered the quality of artist that are currently getting the most "shine"?

The social network sites are a plus and a minus. It's a plus because it kind of levels the playing ground as far as competing with the "major" labels. You can make your own video and put it up on youtube or one of the many video sites of that nature as opposed to crying about not getting any video play on stations such as MTV, BET, and the like. Then you can go on Twitter or whatever site you use and promote it to all of your friends and followers. The minus is that EVERYBODY thinks they have some type of artistic talent so the medium gets over saturated because there's so much material out there. The true talent seems to find a way to shine through eventually, I hope.

Any plans for a new album? What projects are you working on that you can discuss?

The latest "solo" project is out now. It's called "Random Joints". I released it totally indie this time. It's available digitally on itunes, rhapsody, emusic, etc... As well as limited physical cd copies only available on amazon.com at the moment... I'm working on a vinyl version coming soon (along with the instrumental vinyl). Most of the new stuff I'm working on now involves the crew. I'm finishing up a new KAIMBR project as well as another Low Budget member SEAN BORN. It looks like Sean's album will be the first to have production from every producer in low budget. Also LMNO and myself are preparing the follow up album to "selective hearing". It's called James/Brown. (his 1st name is James, my last name is Brown) I have an album with DJ RODDY ROD coming soon too. A lot of good music on the way. Just stay tuned...

I have to ask this, your thoughts on M.O.P & Freddie Foxxx, I know that you have worked with Freddie Foxxx already...

Fight music all day... That's pretty much what I think about when those names come up. Hopefully the Foxxx/Kev Brown project we recorded will see the light of day soon.

The weather this week was BIBLICAL!!! My man Mauricio from back in the Ole Madrid days just opened up his new restaurant Super El Camino where the Airport Lounge
used to be. With one already in South Park, this one has the same decor as the OG one just on steroids... Dj Ikah Love was the sound provider for the night, and kept everybody swinging to some funk joints... All in all a good time, had to keep it mellow because the next night was All Things Rad Pt. Deux at El Dorado... Stay tuned...

A trip was planned for Disneyland this past Sunday for Iron's B-Day weather permitting, and lets just say it was raining cats & dogs the night before so I was pretty sure we weren't gonna make it. My ace Damien from Skate Standard was sponsoring a high air contest up in Oceanside with our boy Sam Yago, so he hit me up to roll. It was a little chilly that day but it didn't stop the kids from ripping and some real O.G's came out FOR REAL!!! It's always good to see cats still holding it down for the love of skateboarding, like my man Kyong Kim and Sean Sheffey... Two long time friends that came out to support the Skate Standard movement and what my man Dame is doing... There weren't a lot of entries, because the back bowl is kind of gnarly and it was COLD so taking a slam on cold concrete is not the raddest. Still the kids were blasting and when the dust settled, Skate Standard rider Cory Juneau walked away with the W... Good job lil'man!!! Till next time...

This summer was a crucial component for putting my mind at ease, but soon as the temperature drops it seems like so does my morale. That's why I'm in the process of developing a strict regiment for attaining certain goals I have set for myself. Due to the lifestyle I have adopted over the past year my schedule is a tad shaky to say the least. And now that it's getting darker earlier, the days are evaporating in what seems like minutes... Now I'm no spring chicken, and lately it seems I have a lot more riding on my shoulders than what was once thought. It's very easy to tell other people what you want to do, and a HELL of a lot harder to see it thru...
Relationships play a huge part... Not just ones of the romantic nature either... Business, friends, all three need to be balanced so that they work in unison to help one another work and grow. I've been trying to streamline my affairs so that I can benefit off the ones that will benefit from me, the days of the " freebie " are long gone and just like my main man Dame from Skate Standard would say " Yo P, Man you gotta get paid!!! " No truer words have ever been spoken... So as I lay out my " 10 " point plan to get my shit together, as my friends and colleagues I look towards you for support and vice versa...
Because like they said " There ain't no love in the heart of the city... " And thats for damn sure... So goodbye to the days of falling asleep at 4 in the morning and eating shitty, just to wake up and feel even shittier, I gotta make moves, I got money to make, and I got no time for you and all the moves you fake... Ya feel me?

My weekend happened to start on a Thursday, as Irons and I threw the first in what is to be the BEST Thursday night in SD since the golden years of Bar D, coincidentally named ALL THINGS RAD!!! With Lefty's Barbershop & Pacific Drive And yes it was pretty RAD!!! To keep things short and sweet, THANKS TO ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO CAME OUT THAT NIGHT, RESPECT!!! And we'll be doing it again December 17th when we celebrate IRON MIKE'S BIRTHDAY!!! So stay tuned.... big ups to AJ from Lefty's for taking flics also!!! As for the rest of the weekend, there was no Confidential this Friday so I decided to chill that night and watch movies at the pad. I found out that Jay was spinning at the Whistle Stop for 80's & 90's night so Garvin scooped me up and we bounced out to South Park to see what was up... Good crowd, Jay was killing it, till someone puked on the dance floor and the smell killed it for me. Off to Tower Bar we go... And it was CRACKING!!! I dig Tower Bar, as it doubles as my usual Saturday night gig. A few drinks then it was time to hit the hay, good looks on the ride G!!! I had dinner plans for Sunday, but a slight emergency trumped that plan so I rolled out to Sun Diego in East County with the A# crew to Dj a little in store they were having... Pretty chill... We eventually hooked up with the homies Rem and Opi to have some cocktails down at El D, and after some heated games of pool and a couple of Moscow Mule's it was time to bounce... We stopped at the Denny's Diner by my pad for some late night Moons Over My Hammy's and chopped it up a bit, paid the check and put a period on the end of the night. Great weekend I must say... And with Thanksgiving weekend up next, Friday night at Confidential is gonna be CRACKING!!! Don't Sleep...

Well in this case... ALMOST!!! My main ace DDubs took quite a spill Sunday evening while riding his useless wooden toy, but The Curb Crusher crew are some tough MUTHAFUKIN COOKIES!!! Now on the flip side of that I had the opportunity to skate with an OG Team Hosoi rider and SD legend Mike Garcia, and let me tell you STLYE IS SOMETHING YOU'RE BORN WITH!!! And no dollar amount, or school, or hanging out with the " In " crowd will ever be able to give you that!!! And trust me, dude did not disappoint!!! STYLES UPON STYLES... The influence of art on the skateboarding lifestyle (and vice versa) is made evident by the various deck iterations and vibrant designs featured on them over the years.

WHAT A WEEKEND...

What a GREAT weekend!!! Let me start off by sending my condolences to the Negos family for their loss... Then let me say it was a celebration this weekend, and it started Thursday night at Voyer for our boy Jordan's birthday, lots of drinks and I still had to wake up at the crack of dawn to go to LA in the morning. So after only getting like 2 hours sleep the night before Ddubs and I swoop up Iron Mike, drop off Tarzan in Scripps, get some morning runs on the mini ramp and shoot out to Del Mar to meet up with Crispin and Price, mind you its only 10 o'clock in the morning... We're all packed and ready to roll for the First Annual Curb Crusher Venice Beach pilgrimage and skatepark adventure!!! We hit the gas station and stopped by the most LUXURIOUS McDonald's I've ever been to!!! complete with gelato and panninis and all type's of ill shit.
So we get on the road and Price decides to make a pit stop, remember it's only 10:45 am... TIME TO START DRINKING? Yes... It's a bar, and apparently it's tequila and beer time!!! Fuck it!!! So be it... With drinks and pool under the belt all before noon we hop back on the road and make our way up to LA... BAM! Venice Beach... We find parking and make our way out to the beach. As we get closer to the skatepark I realize it's a lot smaller and tighter than it looks in the pics, but after a few minutes of carving around it all starts to come back. We sessioned for about an hour and a half then stopped by a couple of shops, I picked up some ill all black 1/4 top winos at this surf shop Mollusk, pretty rad surf shop...
Everybody was getting hungry so we hit up this little Mexican spot that has CRACKING carne asada. Irons homegirl Cher Chez stopped by to say hello real quick, then we jumped on the freeway back to SD because Irons and I had to Dj that night. We stopped for gas and donuts and right as we got back into SD Price wanted to make another pit stop... That's right, the same bar!!! We get back to DT finally and shoot straight over to Confidential for our usual Friday gig, it's our boy Jordan's birthday so we were expecting a good crowd. My ass was dragging but it was CRACKING in there so after a few more drinks I got my stride back!!! As usual the music was off the chain, and some unexpected guests made their way thru. All in all a successful night shout out's to Lanie from Hellz for stopping by, and Happy Birthday to our boy Jordan... Hope you had fun.
It's 3 in the morning as I make my way to the pad and I'm delirious from lack of sleep, I need some rest because I have to attend a memorial for my cousin Price who's mother passed away last week. It's early Saturday morning and I make my way into DT to scoop up Aly and head over to Price's sister's for the his mom's memorial... Friends, family, food, tears, laughs, celebration of life and a TON of tequila. it was good to see the family and pay our respects and after about 11 shots Aly and I say our goodbye's and head back DT to get ready for the night...
AND OH YES!!! The Pacquiao fight at Irons!!! Pizza ,beer, friends and countryman and one of the BEST GODDAM FIGHTS I'VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME!!! My hats off to Cotto for hanging in there, got MAD heart!!! But my boy did it again!!! with style and grace Manny came out with the V!!! Now it's sleepy time.. mind you, it was only Saturday night but I was going home to sleep till Monday!!! Peace to everybody who came out this weekend and made it SUPER RAD!!! R.I.P Doris Sheila Negos you will be missed!!!! till next time.. Here's some flics enjoy...

I saw this on Alyasha's blog earlier today, but I didn't watch it until now... WOW!!! Hard to believe that a fabric has garnered so much monetary value and cult following, and that we don't even make jeans the same way here in the states because we discontinued manufacturing on the original looms, and in turn the Japanese swooped them up and KILLED IT!!!
Now I'm not a denim head by any means, but I know a good pair of jeans, and I hope we can get back to that good ol' fashioned U.S craftsmanship that we've lost due to our greed and laziness... Holler at my dude Alyasha Owerka Moore if you dont believe me... DAMN I should of held onto those Levi's I used to give crackheads $5 bucks for back in 93' when I worked at the Levi''s spot!!!
